Seasonal Round
Using a posy pad to highlight the textures and colours of a season in a vegetative manner
NB: Tips and seasonal modifications can be found below the photos.
Design by Pam Fleming-Williams. Inspired by Sharon Dower video on YouTube.
You will need:
Seasonal flowers – some single headed.
Grasses/thin branches/twigs.
Range of foliage with different textures e.g. Heather, Conifer, Ivy, Pittosporum.
Alternative could be decorative gravel to cover the surface of the foam.
NB You can view/download the full instructions PDF here.
Mechanics and Sundries
Floral foam posy pad. I used 8” but you could use 10” or bigger.
65cm of 2mm cork sheet/roll, available from, Amazon, eBay, etc. Alternatives are wallpaper, ribbon, hessian. (Join could be at the back of the design).
Mechanics and Sundries
A length of florist’s Poly ribbon.
Pins – corsage or steel or pearl headed.
Raffia or jute twine wrapped round the circumference could be used to hide any pin heads if wanted.
Method
Lightly soak the posy pad. Slice the cork sheet on a craft or chopping board to strip/s or just cut a suitable length off a roll. Can be straight or angled. Either cut to the depth of the posy pad or deeper if preferred. If deep, the flowers will need to be bold to balance the visual weight of the cork strip. Fix a length of poly ribbon round the circumference of the posy pad, pinning into the hard plastic base. This is to protect the cork from getting too wet.
Cover the ribbon with the cork strip, pinning appropriately. Place foliage as groundwork on the surface of the posy pad or leave the surface bare until the end then cover the surface of the foam with decorative gravel. Arrange plant materials in a vertical manner to create interest at the base and at height. The central area should be visually ‘transparent’. Make a final adjustment to the depth of the cork to get the correct proportion for visual balance.

Tips/seasonal modifications
Could use evergreens/seasonal colours e.g. red and green for Xmas.
Pussy willow, Iris flowers, blossom, twigs, Narcissi, etc. for Spring.
Alternative is to cover the top of the foam with sand, crab apples, small baubles, seed compost, etc
