Zoom Demonstration – Monday 17th May starting at 7.30pm
Our next demonstration will be via Zoom on Monday 17th May starting at 7.30pm. Our demonstrator is club member Vanessa Wellock from Ilkley and her demonstration is called ‘Fall back, spring forward’. Vanessa is a club favourite and is so innovative and forward thinking with her designs.

We will send the Zoom link in a separate email on Monday 17th so it’s easier for you to find in your inbox. The passcode will be different every month.

Flowers and Chat – via Zoom
We have held 3 Flowers and Chat Zooms covering various themes and members have been really helpful and creative to one another. We are going to pause the Flowers and Chat now the lighter evening are here and possibly return to them in the colder, dark evenings, with specific themes to help develop our floral skills.

National Flower Arranging Day – thank you
A huge thank you to all members who so generously supported this year’s National Flower Arranging Day. We had quite a few designs on display at members’ homes on Friday 7th May and a fantastic response to the request for small arrangements for beneficiaries of the Leave No One Behind In Lymm initiative. Take a look at our website to see a really colourful display.

National Chairman’s Challenge for June is ‘Wedding time’
Would you like to create our club’s entry into the June National Chairman’s Challenge? We just need a photograph by Friday 11th June.

We are keeping our fingers crossed that the government’s Covid roadmap continues as planned and lockdown restrictions end on the 21st June and we can hold our Lymm Festival event in the village hall on Saturday 26th June. Please pencil the date in your diary.
A huge thank you to Sheila Randall,Helen Hunter and Stella White who kindly agreed to help plan the vintage teas and to the other members who have volunteered to help. Perhaps you would like to attend as a participant? Tickets are £30 each and will be available from the festival’s box office. Attached is a very comprehensive list from Sheila containing lots of details about the support we would like from you. Perhaps you could volunteer to make something or provide somethig for the teas?

Club Membership and finances
We currently have 47 paid members. For various reasons such as; no internet access or want to wait until we get back to the village hall, 12 former members have not renewed their subscription. We currently have approximately £XXX in our bank account and last month’s demonstration cost the club £XXX

Some interesting facebook, websites and YouTube videos suggested by club members
The Virtual National Show was fabulous with many lovely creative exhibits. Here’s the link to the Youtube video of the winning entries. All the exhibits can be found on the NAFAS facebook page – which is open to everyone, you don’t need to have a facebook account, it’s just like a website.

NAFAS Virtual National Show Competition 'Springtime' Results » NAFAS
You will be able to see many wonderful designs from our club members – Karen Clegg, Debbie Davies, Gill Davies, Colette Dunkley, Louise Jones and Janet Schofield. A special mention and congratulation to Debbie Davies – 2nd prize in Class 12, Gill Davies – 2nd prize in Class 7, Louise Jones - Highly Commended in Class 7 and Janet Schofield – 2nd prize in Class 11.

  • The Area’s Golden Anniversary Fashion Show with afternoon tea will take place on Sunday 3rd October. Ticket will be £25 each.

  • There are still a few free places available for the Jillian Page’s jewellery workshop on Wed 19th May at 7.30pm. Would you like to attend?

  • RHS Tatton is due to take place in July and the Area will be creating a ‘Moon Gate’ (similar to a wedding arch) to show off our floral skills. Janet and Gill are leading the creation of the moon gate to celebrate the Area’s Golden Anniversary and wish to encourage members to get involved. Do you, a neighbour or a friend have any contorted hazel the team could use?

  • The sale of Osborne House has been agreed and a lot of work is underway to prepare for it’s disposal. This will probably be in early 2022.

Zoom Demonstration – Monday 19th April starting at 7.30pm
Our next demonstration will be via Zoom on Monday 19th April starting at 7.30pm. Our demonstrator is club member Debbie Davies from Formby and her demonstration is called ‘The colours of my life’. Debbie is one of our club’s favourites and is so creative in everything she produces

We will send the Zoom link in a separate email on Monday 18th March so it’s easier for you to find in your inbox. The passcode will be different every month.

Flowers and Chat – via Zoom – Monday 26th April
The next Flowers & Chat Zoom will be on Monday 26th April at 7.00pm, lasting no longer than an hour and the theme this month is ‘Pot et fleur’. Houseplants are making a huge comeback in homes and are very ‘on trend’. A Pot et Fleur is basically a collection of houseplants arranged in a container with space for some added flowers. In the chat session we can cover what to include and how to make one. See the attachment for a few ideas.
The Zoom link will be sent to members on Monday 26th April.

National Flower Arranging Day – Friday 7th May
Instead of handing out flowers to celebrate the event this year and to fit in with current guidelines, all flower club members across the country are being asked to use their home to displace something floral on a front door, front gate, front fence etc.  We hope to create a type of trail for people to follow around Lymm to create some publicity and show what can be created using just a few flowers.

Also, we plan to create some small floral items to give to the Foodbank and Leave No One Behind in Lymm groups to distribute to people locally. Would you like to get involved in one or both of these initiatives?

National Chairman’s Challenge for May is ‘May Day Celebration’
Would you like to create our club’s entry into the May National Chairman’s Challenge? We just need a photograph by Friday 14th May.

Floral Crafternoon Vintage Tea - Saturday 26th June
We have applied to Lymm Festival to hold an event in the village hall on Saturday 26th June. Please pencil the date in your diary. We would really welcome a volunteer to help Sheila plan the teas – can you help with some ideas and suggestions to plan this part of the event? Perhaps you have some experience of doing something like this before? Please get in touch with Sheila or Pam M.

Wood workshop with Dawn Weaver – would you like to attend?
After Dawn’s fabulous ‘wild wood’ demonstration last month, a few members have expressed interest in attending one of her wood workshops near Chester. Is this something you would like to attend? No date or costs yet, just wanted to know if anyone else is interested in attending after restrictions have been eased.

Club Membership and finances
We currently have 47 paid members. For various reasons such as; no internet access or want to wait until we get back to the village hall, 12 former members have not renewed their subscription. We currently have approximately £xx in our bank account (we still haven’t managed to get online banking), and last month’s demonstration cost the club £xx.

  • Your LFAG subscription entitles you to access Zoom events being hosted by Cheshire Area free of charge to support the Area’s Fashion Show in October. Some members attended Mark Entwistle very entertaining hat demonstration, and hat have been made by Pam H (see attached photo), Pam M, Gill D and Janet. Places are still available on Wed 14th April at 2.00pm for Ninnta Khemka’s Indian dress talk as well at Jillian Page’s jewellery workshop on Wed 19th May at 7.30pm. Pam Hammond has kindly agreed to wear our club’s creations and walk down the catwalk for us (a phew from everyone!)

  • It’s not too late to enter the novice class at the Virtual Royal Cheshire Show. Applications should have been made by the end of March however there are still some spare place – if you are interested, please contact Gill Davies asap. You just need to send a photograph of the design you have created to Gill by Friday 14th May.

Can you help with any of the following: do you have any contorted hazel the team could use? Would you like to create a heart from plant material, or decorate glass jars, or create a gold box?

NAFAS HQ   https://www.nafas.org.uk/

  • The Virtual National Show and Competition has start in April. There will be lots of photographs of the 12 classes.  For first three weeks of April there is a demonstration, talk and ‘how to’ session.

  • The National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies are celebrating National Flower Arranging Day on Friday 7th May 2021. Instead of handing out flowers to celebrate the event this year, to fit in with current guidelines, flower club members around the country will be using their homes to firstly mark the day but also more importantly to give a little cheer and sign of hope. They will also be building on the successful floral Rings of Hope that were hung on front doors last summer in support of the NHS. If you have a flower club near you look out for something floral on a front door, front gate, front fence etc. Distinctive flyers will be attached to the flowers giving details of the Association www.nafas.org.uk

Let’s hope the Covid roadmap goes according to plan so we can all meet up soon – hopefully in July.
We look forward to seeing you all on Monday 19th April.

Flowers and Chat – via Zoom
Thank you to all of you who joined our first Flowers and Chat about your ‘vile vase’. The group came up with lots of suggestions and ideas of how they could be used in the future. A few photos are now on our website.

The next Flowers & Chat Zoom will be on Monday 22nd March at 7.00pm, lasting no longer than an hour and the theme is ‘that will come in handy one day’. So have a rummage in your flower arranging boxes and find something you’ve saved but not used recently. The Zoom link will be sent to you on Monday 22nd March.

Floral Crafternoon Vintage Tea - Saturday 26th June
We have applied to Lymm Festival to hold an event in the village hall on Saturday 26th June. At this stage we really don’t know if the festival will go ahead and if we can have access to the hall. If the event can go ahead, we would really welcome your support and help on the day, such as helping to serve teas, flower arranging tuition, together with your wonderful cake making skills. Please pencil the date in your diary.

National Chairman’s Challenge – Spring Bonnet

Lymm Floral Art Group - Newsletter - January 2021

NB: You can download and print a PDF copy of the January 2021 newsletter here.

Hello everyone

Welcome to a new year when we will all be offered a Covid-19 vaccine again this silent mugger.

Here’s an update about Lymm Floral Art Group, Cheshire Area and NAFAS HQ.

LFAG https://lymmfloralartgrouporguk.wordpress.com/

Our next demonstration will be via Zoom on Monday 18th January at 7.30pm, starting with a swift AGM followed by the very talented and innovative Alison Chambers (nee Cooper). Alison is a florist from Salford and has won the very prestigious national designer of the year competition. Her demonstration title is ‘A form of nature’.

This will be a slightly different AGM via Zoom because there are too many challenges with membership voting.  We will therefore continue with subscription fees as agreed at the 2020 AGM.

We can’t sell raffle tickets by Zoom and when we get back to live demonstrations, raffles and money handling will still be full of issues. Instead, members can enter the 10 raffles taking place in 2021 by paying £20. Everyone who has paid will be entered into the ‘member raffle’ and guaranteed of winning at least one design. If you didn’t attend Arley you have a £20 credit towards this year’s fees.

We will be collecting monies in Jan/Feb and Pam Hammond will be coordinating payments. You can pay by BACS to Lymm Floral Art Group, sort code xx xx xx, account number xxxxxxxx and include your name in the description box.  If you are paying by BACS, please send an email to xxxxxxxxxxxxx letting Pam know you have paid. If you are paying by cheque, please send your cheque to Pam at xxxxxxxxxxx There’s no need to complete a subscription form this year, just let Pam know if there are any changes to your personal details. Pam can also be contacted on her mobile 07786 368108.

We have a fabulous programme of demonstrators booked for 2021 (full details on our website). It’s our Golden Anniversary year and please made a note of Sunday 5th September when we will be holding a celebratory garden visit and afternoon tea.

Would you like to join in with our ‘Floral Tête-à-têtes’ - Zoom chats? We will be setting up some fortnightly conversation to share ideas, information and tips.

We will also run some online workshops throughout the year in addition to the demonstrations so there is plenty to keep you busy during this lockdown!

Have you made a new year’s resolution to start using Zoom? If you would like some help, please get in touch. We can set up a test meeting exclusively for you so that you can find your way around the Zoom screen and become confident to use it.

If you use a laptop, please speak with Vanessa (01925 757471) or Sheila (01925 212682) or Pam M (07876 176501). If you use an iPad, please speak with Tracy-Ann (01925 210836) or Pam H (07786 368108) or Janet S (07974 332387).

Thank you to Gill Davies and all the members who created the magnificent spheres. It’s a still life style of floral design and looks very festive using the colour theme of green, pink and silver. Some photos are on the club’s website and we had 26 visitors to the page in one day.

Could you send some photographs of your Christmas designs to put on our website? Perhaps you have created a door wreath or a table decoration and would like to share with the group?

Arley Christmas demonstration

16 members and friends attended Arley Hall’s Christmas demonstration by Jonathan Moseley and 4 of our group went home with one of his designs. He created lots of designs you could replicate at home with natural plant material from Arley’s gardens. Many people said it was so nice to get out, meet members to have a socially distanced chat and enjoy a relaxing live demonstration.

Lymm Floral Art Group - Newsletter - November 2020

NB: You can download and print a PDF copy of the newsletter here.

Hello Everyone,

We hope you are all well and yet again having to adapt to the latest lockdown restrictions.

Here’s an update about Lymm Floral Art Group, Cheshire Area and NAFAS HQ news.

LFAG virtual demonstrations

Our pilot Zoom demonstration by Janet in October was a great success. 24 members joined and it was lovely to see and hear everyone, albeit on a screen. Even Sue’s cat Poppy appeared to enjoy it as well. Zoom seems to be the best way forward at the moment with all the lockdown restrictions.

Our November virtual demonstration will be on Monday 16th November with Mark Entwistle when he will present his ‘Glitter Balls’ Christmas demonstration via Zoom at 7.30pm.

The Zoom meeting will be live from 7.15pm, Mark’s demonstration will start at 7.30pm and he will create 4 designs. We will hold a free raffle at the end and the winners will be drawn from the people attending. The designs will be delivered to the winners on Tuesday 17th Nov.

We will email the link to you a couple of days before the demonstration.

If you’ve not used Zoom before and would like some help with the technology, please get in touch. We can set up a test meeting exclusively for you so that you can find your way around the Zoom screen and become confident to use it.

If you use a laptop, please speak with Vanessa (01925 757471) or Sheila (01925 212682) or Pam M (07876 176501). If you use an IPad, please speak with Tracy Ann (01925 210836) or Pam H (07786 368108) or Janet S (07974 332387).

LFAG virtual workshop for St Mary’s Christmas Tree Festival

We do hope the Christmas Tree Festival will go ahead and Gill Davies has kindly agreed to lead the creation of a still life design using a stepladder. Gill will be hosting a Zoom meeting on Monday 23rd November at 7.30pm to talk about the small spheres we would like you to make. The colour theme is green, pink and silver. We would like about 30 spheres (tennis ball size) to decorate the tree.

We will email the link to you a couple of days before the virtual workshop.

Arley Christmas demonstration - subject to lockdown not extending past 2nd Dec.

Our visit to Arley appears to be happening, at the moment. 16 members have booked a place for the Jonathan Moseley demonstration on Wed 9th Dec at 11.00am in the Cruck Barn. The demonstration cost of £20 will be deducted from your LFAG subscription and you won’t have to pay the £2 for parking - we have secured a little discount for you.

Arley are being very careful to follow all Covid rules for Jonathan's demonstration, we will be socially distance throughout and wearing masks.

There will be a festive food offer from the café which will be takeaway only but outdoor seating will be provided for those that wish to stay on for lunch.

Please email Sheila Randall to book your place randallsheila@hotmail.com or phone 01925212682 by Friday 13th November.
