Club Meetings
Diamond Anniversary CelebrationsWistaston and District Flower Club has been part of life in the village since 1961 and celebrated it’s Diamond Anniversary in May 2021. It’s motto has always been “Play with Flowers and Smile” and this still holds true today. Amongst those early members were Margaret Cope and Christine Harper who are still members today. Over the years members have enjoyed watching demonstrations by talented, creative floral designers, learning new skills through workshops and enter competitions both within the club and other NAFAS events. They also enjoyed trips out to gardens and events. Sixty years later members participate in similar activities and continue to play an active part in the community. In recent years we have supported the Rose Queen Festival and the Wistaston Produce Show. Together with Nantwich Flower Club, we have managed the Floral Art section of Nantwich Agricultural Show which is hoped will run again in 2022. |

A Christmas Workshop With Judy Gratton | |
Our club aims to preserve the best of the history and traditions established by those early founder members while moving forward and embracing new ideas. Did that first committee ever imagine our anniversary in May 2021 would be celebrated by a Zoom demonstration? Well, we did and what a fabulous event it was! Debbie Davies shared her fabulous ideas and created a special Diamond Anniversary piece for us. The Zoom was greatly enjoyed by fifty plus people and we will consider similar events for the winter months but most of all we hope to be able to open the doors of the Memorial Hall and welcome members and visitors back to afternoons of flowers and friendship very soon. See social media and village notice boards for details of future events. For more information please contact our secretary on 07530682196 or carynmurray24@gmail.com. |

Activities
We have hosted five “Flowers and Chat” sessions in our COVID secure venue in Wistaston. It’s the “Season of Mist and Mellow Fruitfulness” so for this last one we made an autumnal wreath. We’re taking a break for a couple of weeks but will be back in time for Christmas.

Wistaston Flower Club opened their doors after lockdown for Flowers and Chat.
Members and visitors enjoyed getting together again and becoming immersed in arranging the flowers provided. They brought scissors and a mask and the flower club team provided everything else.

Everyone agreed that they felt safe in the COVID secure setting and that it was wonderful to get out to do something different. There was no pressure to create award winning designs or follow flower arranging “rules” although some tips could be passed on from a safe distance. It was more about enjoying the flowers and company of fellow flower lovers.

From the club’s point of view, it gave us the opportunity to engage with our members, attract visitors and raise the profile of our club at an otherwise very quiet time. All five sessions have sold out with many signing up for repeat sessions. We hope to use the same format for at least one Christmas event.
