Hundreds of show goers love to come and see the floral art designs in the NAFAS marquee at the Royal Cheshire Show in June each year. Cheshire Area runs a competition with about 12 classes and floral art designers from far and wide come along to construct their designs on site and hope to win prizes, awards and trophies. There is always a buzz of excitement in the tent and lots of laughter as friends meet and support each other as they painstakingly bring together their ideas with fresh plant materials to interpret the titles set for each class.

This year the floral designers, mainly members of the Cheshire Area of NAFAS, staged a virtual show and the results can be seen here. There was a new competition with the theme ‘Anything Goes at the Cheshire Show’ which challenged competitors to create a flower design at home and send in photographs to allow for judging. RHS rules were applied in this instance so the qualified judges gave Bronze, Silver, Silver Gilt and Gold awards. As well as images of the Novice and Experienced class entries there are videos of an easy design for adults or children to make and demonstrations of a range of designs by qualified demonstrators. You can also see a montage of the winning entries form the 2019 show.

Among the classes there is always one novices, for those who are new to competing. There is help and support available for those who are less confident. Taking part in the Cheshire Show Theatre of Flowers is always a pleasure and much of this comes from seeing the enjoyment so many visitors gain from seeing the designs and wondering at the creativity and craftsmanship of our talented members.
